According to a CNN report, high-profile stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Jim Carrey, Joe Jonas, and others have sparked public speculation about facelifts, fillers, Botox, and other interventions.

Some, like Jonas, have openly discussed their use of injectables, while others, including Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling, have denied undergoing procedures despite persistent rumours.

Industry data shows a rising interest in anti-ageing treatments among men.

In the UK, men accounted for 6.5% of all cosmetic surgery procedures in 2024, with face and neck lifts up 26% from the previous year.

In the US, men made up 6% of injectable treatments, including Botox and Xeomin, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Experts attribute the trend to social media, video conferencing, and reality television, which emphasise appearance and promote a culture of “looksmaxxing” — optimising facial features through exercises, hair transplants, or cosmetic procedures.

“Men’s value is increasingly tied to the work they do on their bodies,” said Chris Haywood, a reader in critical masculinity studies at Newcastle University.

Despite this growing interest, societal expectations still present a tension.

Traditionally, men were allowed to age visibly, while women faced higher scrutiny.

Now, male celebrities are subject to similar standards as women, reflecting broader cultural pressures to maintain youthfulness.

Lauren Steckles-Young, a lecturer in social studies, warned that the anti-ageing fixation reinforces unrealistic ideals and can devalue older generations, encouraging fear of ageing and self-erasure.
