Major disaster averted after female bomber arrested: CM Bugti

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti on Wednesday said that security forces had arrested a female suicide bomber during a major operation in Balochistan.

Addressing a press conference, Bugti praised the security forces for their timely action, stating that the operation had prevented a major disaster.

“I am grateful to the security forces for capturing the female suicide bomber alive,” Bugti said.

The chief minister further highlighted that terrorists were exploiting Baloch women and undermining respect for women.

He also expressed concern about the increasing efforts to lead Baloch youth toward extremism.

“The people of Balochistan are cooperating with the government and providing sensitive information, helping security forces secure the province,” he said.

Bugti emphasised that the Baloch people are proud and honourable, and that they were being pushed into a futile war.

“This is something that requires serious consideration,” he added, confirming that issues related to women would be addressed by the women’s police.

During the press conference, the arrested woman, identified as Laiba, shared her statement.

She revealed that she belonged to the Khuzdar district, where she was known as Farzana in her community.

Laiba stated that she had been recruited by Taliban commander Ibrahim, who had brainwashed her for a suicide bombing mission.

“I was influenced by their words and agreed to become a suicide bomber,” Liba said.

She said she had been trained for a suicide mission but was arrested before carrying it out.

Laiba also revealed that she had been tasked with recruiting other girls for suicide attacks.

“I urge all women to stay away from any such criminal activities,” she said.

Chief Minister Bugti emphasised that Laiba’s story exposed the exploitation of Baloch women by terrorist elements.

He said that Afghanistan has become a haven for terrorists, adding that the people of Balochistan do not accept terrorism.

Bugti maintained that the path on which the youth were being put is against Baloch traditions.

The chief minister stated that Balochistan is being pushed into a senseless war and that people are being misled in the name of Baloch identity.

Responding to a question, he said the security forces’ actions have improved the law and order situation.
