Sindh weighs strict measures to manage fuel crisis

Authorities in Sindh are preparing contingency plans and considering measures to manage a worsening fuel shortage, officials said on Monday.

The provincial government has begun consultations with energy suppliers, transport authorities and law enforcement agencies as fuel stocks at several depots decline.

The officials said the government is reviewing options, including fuel rationing, priority allocation for emergency services and restrictions on non-essential transport if supplies do not improve in the coming days.

The measures are intended to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability for hospitals, emergency responders, power generation and public transport systems, officials said.

Authorities did not specify the duration of the expected shortage but warned that disruptions in the supply chain and rising demand had tightened availability across several districts.

Transport operators in Karachi and other major cities have already reported reduced operations due to limited diesel supplies, raising concerns of further disruption to daily commuting and goods movement.

Provincial authorities said they are coordinating with federal agencies and oil marketing companies to stabilise supplies and avoid a prolonged crisis.
