Lt. Gen. (retd) Nazir Ahmed will continue as Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for another three years after the federal government issued a notification approving the extension on Friday.

According to the notification, the extension will take effect from March 6, 2026.

The Ministry of Law and Justice confirmed that the decision has been made under the relevant accountability legislation.

The federal government approved the extension following amendments to the NAB law.

President Asif Ali Zardari signed the NAB Amendment Bill 2026 after it was passed by both the Senate and the National Assembly with a large majority.

Under the amended law, the financial threshold for initiating investigations has been reduced from Rs500 million to Rs300 million.

The legislation also changes the NAB Chairman’s tenure from non-extendable to extendable.

According to the new provisions, the current Chairman may continue in office until a successor is appointed and will not automatically vacate the position after the completion of the term.
