Karachi police crack Rs300m jewellery heist in 48 hours

Karachi Police have claimed to have solved a major robbery at a jewellery shop in Orangi Town within 48 hours, following the theft of gold and diamonds worth Rs300 million.

Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, DIG West Irfan Baloch gave details of the case and stated that the robbery had been planned by a shop employee who had been working at the shop for the past 15 years.

According to Irfan Baloch, the suspect was not only the mastermind of the plan but also formed a gang that included other skilled workers.

Police said the suspects meticulously planned the heist over approximately six months, studying the shop’s security systems before executing the robbery.

The DIG West identified Aamir as the mastermind who facilitated the robbery.

Other members of the gang included Ameer Alam, Ali Ismail, Riaz, and several others.

Riaz was brought into the gang as a welder to assist in breaking or unlocking locks.

However, CCTV footage revealed that no locks were broken; instead, they were opened skillfully, reinforcing suspicions of insider knowledge being used in the heist.

Police have arrested all six suspects involved in the robbery.

Authorities recovered 12 welding machines, two pistols, and other equipment from the suspects’ possession.

The stolen gold has also been recovered, authorities said, adding that further investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Sindh interior minister has praised the police team for their swift action, describing the recovery of the looted gold and the arrest of the suspects within 48 hours as a major success.
