The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced that new net metering regulations will not apply to existing solar consumers, providing relief to current users.

In a notification, NEPRA said amendments to the solar and prosumer policy will take effect from February 9, 2026, and will apply only to new applicants.

The authority confirmed that the existing net metering policy for current solar users will remain unchanged under the revised framework.

NEPRA has issued a draft amendment to the Solar Policy 2026 and sought feedback from stakeholders within 30 days.

The regulator has also initiated public consultation on proposed changes to the Prosumer Regulations 2026, following directives after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the matter.

According to NEPRA, public suggestions and objections have been invited within 30 days. The draft amendments have been uploaded to the “News” section of its official website.

The proposed changes have been published under Section 47(3) of the Electricity Act, 1997, to ensure transparency and stakeholder participation.

Citizens can submit their views to the Registrar at NEPRA Tower or through official channels within the stipulated timeframe.

NEPRA said improving the power sector through transparency and public engagement remains its top priority, adding that feedback will be carefully reviewed before finalising the regulations.
