Ahead of his departure, Naqvi met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad.

Sources said that before the match, Naqvi will meet the national squad to motivate and encourage the players.

He is also expected to hold meetings with heads of various cricket boards in Colombo.

Likely, Mohsin Naqvi and International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah will watch the Pakistan-India match together.

Officials indicated that other ICC representatives and Indian cricket board officials will also be present in Colombo for this high-profile encounter, bringing PCB and BCCI representatives together at the same venue.

Sri Lanka Cricket has invited officials from several boards, and it is expected that the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board will also attend.

The ICC has invited the heads of Asia’s five major cricket-playing nations — Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka — to encourage dialogue and ease recent tensions.

In an interview, Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam said the meeting would take place on the sidelines of the Pakistan-India match in Colombo.

He added that the objective of the meeting is to improve relations among the three countries, which had experienced some friction prior to the World Cup.

Aminul Islam further stated that the ICC hopes the board representatives will watch the match together and use the opportunity for constructive discussions to resolve outstanding issues.
