The Group C fixture was played at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, where West Indies, batting first, posted 196 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs and then dismissed England for 166 in 19 overs while defending a target of 197.

West Indies endured a shaky start as they lost two early wickets for just eight runs. Shai Hope was dismissed for a duck, while Brandon King managed only one run.

Shimron Hetmyer then counter-attacked with a quick 23 off 12 balls to stabilise the innings.

Roston Chase played a composed knock, scoring 34 off 29 deliveries with six boundaries.

The standout performer was Sherfane Rutherford, who anchored the innings with an unbeaten 76 off 42 balls, hitting two fours and seven sixes.

Jason Holder added valuable late runs with a rapid 33 off 17 balls, while Rovman Powell chipped in with 14.

For England, Adil Rashid and Jamie Overton claimed two wickets each, while Sam Curran and Jofra Archer took one apiece.

Chasing 197, England’s batting line-up struggled from the outset. Phil Salt scored 30, and Jos Buttler made 21, while Jacob Bethell top-scored with 33.

However, none of the batters were able to convert their starts into match-winning contributions.

Sam Curran offered resistance towards the end with an unbeaten 43 off 30 balls, but his effort proved insufficient as wickets continued to fall at the other end.

England were eventually bowled out for 166 in 19 overs, handing West Indies a comprehensive 30-run victory.

For the West Indies, Gudakesh Motie led the bowling attack with three wickets, while Roston Chase took two. Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd and Shamar Joseph picked up one wicket each.
