In a statement, the Coast Guard said the vessels were identified through advanced surveillance systems, data pattern analysis, and monitoring technology.

The network was allegedly involved in ship-to-ship transfers in international waters to move low-cost oil from conflict-affected regions and evade taxes and duties in coastal states.

According to Iranian media, the seized vessels are Iranian-owned and include Al Jafziyah, Asphalt Star, and Stellar Ruby.

Reports said the tankers were intercepted at sea and taken into custody on smuggling charges.

Iranian outlets linked the move to India’s “contradictory foreign policy” and increasing pressure from the United States, particularly over sanctions related to Iran’s energy sector.

Sources warned that the seizures could trigger fresh diplomatic tensions between Tehran and New Delhi.

Foreign media reports also said India has withdrawn from the strategic Chabahar Port project under US sanctions pressure, affecting bilateral economic ties.

However, Indian media claimed that New Delhi had paid Iran the agreed $120 million amount before the enforcement of US sanctions.

Analysts said the developments reflect growing challenges in India-Iran relations amid shifting geopolitical dynamics and sanctions-related constraints.
