The action comes in connection with a cheque dishonour case linked to a loan taken for his 2010 directorial film Ata Patta Lapata.

The case dates back to 2010, when Yadav allegedly borrowed ₹5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance the film.

After the movie failed commercially, the loan could not be repaid, prompting the lender to approach the court.

In April 2018, a magistrate’s court convicted Rajpal Yadav and his wife Radha under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, which deals with cheque bounce offences.

The matter remained pending for several years due to appeals and prolonged legal proceedings.

According to Indian media reports, Yadav recently surrendered before the authorities in connection with the case and was taken into custody for non-payment of the dues.

The outstanding amount, including interest and penalties, is reported to have risen to nearly ₹9 crore.

The actor has not issued any detailed statement on the latest court development.

Legal experts note that imprisonment can be ordered under the Negotiable Instruments Act if court directives are not complied with.
