K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi resigns after 18 years with utility

K-Electric Chief Executive Officer Moonis Alvi has resigned from his position, the utility informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Friday.

His resignation comes days after Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori set aside a provincial ombudsman’s order that had sought his removal over alleged involvement in a workplace harassment case.

Alvi was appointed CEO in June 2018 and reappointed in July 2025. He joined K-Electric in 2008 and previously served as chief financial officer, company secretary and head of treasury.

Sources said three candidates have been shortlisted for the post, and the board is expected to meet next week, likely on February 10, to decide the future course.

Announcing his decision on X, Alvi said he had decided to step down after 18 years with the company, including nearly eight years as CEO.

“It has been an honour to serve an institution so central to Karachi’s life,” he wrote, adding that he would support a smooth transition.

In a video message, he said institutions are always greater than individuals and that no organisation depends on one person.

He said the foundation laid for the company was strong and expressed confidence that his successor would take it forward.

In July 2025, the Sindh Ombudsman had ordered his removal over alleged involvement in a harassment case. Alvi termed the decision “deeply distressing,” and the Sindh High Court later suspended the order.

He subsequently filed an appeal before the governor, who eventually set aside the ruling.
