In his address to the United Nations meeting on threats to international peace and security posed by terrorism, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad highlighted the renewed activities of the BLA.

He said that following the Taliban’s takeover in Afghanistan, groups such as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Fitna Al Hindustan, and the BLA have resurged.

Operating from Afghan soil with near-complete impunity and receiving active support from Pakistan’s eastern neighbour, these groups have carried out violent and ruthless terrorist attacks inside Pakistan.

“Just last week, the BLA claimed responsibility for multiple attacks across Balochistan, which resulted in the deaths of 48 innocent civilians,” Asim Iftikhar said.

He emphasised that terrorism poses a grave threat to global peace and security, affecting not only individual countries but the entire region and beyond.

He called for decisive action to curb the threat posed by the BLA at the international level.

In addition, he condemned acts of state-sponsored terrorism by India in Indian-occupied Kashmir and highlighted ongoing human rights violations there as a matter of concern for the global conscience.
