US weapons left in Afghanistan fuel militancy in Pakistan: CNN

Advanced US weapons left behind during the American withdrawal from Afghanistan are now being used by militants to carry out attacks in Pakistan, CNN reports.

According to CNN, former US official John Sopko confirmed that around 300,000 American weapons were left behind in Afghanistan, which have now become a serious threat to neighbouring countries.

“The report reveals that banned militant groups like the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) are now using advanced US-made rifles, machine guns, and sniper weapons.

Experts say the availability of these arms has made attacks more deadly and complex, posing serious challenges for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts.”

CNN reported that Pakistani security forces showcased weapons recovered from terrorists, all bearing US markings.

These same weapons were reportedly used in attacks in South Waziristan and Balochistan.

“Experts warn that the spread of US-made weapons and night-vision equipment is giving terrorist groups greater firepower and operational ability, raising serious security concerns along Pakistan’s border regions.”

“The report also points out that weapons left behind by US forces have become a significant security threat in Pakistan’s border areas.”
