Ramazan crescent likely to be sighted on February 18: PMD

The crescent for the holy month of Ramazan in Pakistan is expected to be sighted on February 18, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Subsequently, the first fasting day in the country is likely on February 19, 2026.

According to the PMD, the Ramazan moon is expected to be sighted following its birth on February 17 at 5.01pm.

In Karachi, the moon will be approximately 26 hours old on February 18. The moon generally needs to be at least 19 hours old to be visible.

The PMD added that sunset in Karachi will occur at 6.25pm on February 18, creating favourable conditions for moon sighting in the city.

The weather across most parts of the country is expected to be partly cloudy, which may affect visibility elsewhere.

Karachi is therefore considered one of the most likely locations for confirming the start of Ramazan, according to meteorological forecasts.
