A family of four died from suffocation caused by a gas leak in Quetta’s Nawan Killi area on Friday, police said.

The incident occurred at a house on Abdul Khaliq Road in the New Labour Colony.

Police said gas leakage inside the residence led to the accumulation of fumes, resulting in the deaths of all occupants.

The victims were identified as 42-year-old Shahid Esther, his wife Shabana Shahid, 32, and their two sons — Daniel Shahid, 12, and Benjamin Shahid, 10.

Upon receiving information, police and rescue officials reached the scene and shifted the bodies to Civil Hospital Quetta for post-mortem examination and legal formalities.

Officials said this was the sixth gas-related incident reported in Quetta this year.

So far, at least five people have lost their lives, while more than 15 others, including women and children, have sustained burn injuries in similar incidents.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the gas leak and to assess safety conditions in the area.
