PM Shehbaz signs Gaza ‘Board of Peace’ charter at Davos

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday signed the charter for the “Board of Peace”, an initiative of US President Donald Trump to promote peace in Gaza.

The signing ceremony was held in Davos, Switzerland, on the sidelines of the ongoing World Economic Forum (WEF).

Besides Prime Minister Shehbaz, the charter was also signed by leaders from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina and Armenia.

Other countries that signed the draft include the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Uzbekistan, Paraguay, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo and Mongolia.

Addressing the ceremony, President Trump thanked the participating countries for joining the Gaza Board of Peace, saying that many more nations were interested in becoming part of the initiative.

He said that significant work could be done for Gaza, including its reconstruction, and warned that Hamas would be eliminated if it did not disarm.

President Trump claimed that the United States had helped stop several wars and made the world safer, adding that global progress would follow US progress.

“The world is more peaceful and secure today than before. We have achieved what many thought was impossible,” Trump said, adding that the United States had played a key role in ending conflicts.

He cited US involvement in preventing war between Pakistan and India, easing tensions between Israel and Iran, resolving disputes between Serbia and Kosovo, and mediating between Thailand and Cambodia.

Trump also said that a ceasefire in Gaza was achieved through a peace agreement, allowing humanitarian relief efforts to begin in the territory.
