Dar, Iran foreign minister discuss regional tensions in phone call

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss the current tense situation in the region, officials said.

During the call, Dar spoke with his Iranian counterpart about Iran’s internal and regional situation and stressed the importance of maintaining close consultations.

Both foreign ministers agreed that Pakistan and Iran would remain in close contact and continue diplomatic engagement to ensure timely communication as the situation evolves.

The two leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining Pakistan-Iran diplomatic ties and ongoing dialogue in order to respond effectively to changing regional dynamics.

Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that communication channels between Iran and the United States have not been completely severed.

Baghaei said direct contacts remain open between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff, and that messages are exchanged between the two sides when necessary.

He added that Iran and the United States also continue to communicate through Switzerland, which acts as a traditional intermediary.

The spokesperson said the United States had raised certain issues and shared some general views, but stressed that Iran has never adopted a position of withdrawing from the negotiation process.

However, he said contradictory statements emerging from Washington reflect a lack of seriousness and have raised questions about the future of talks.
