Addressing an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council (UNSC), Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, said the use of force against a sovereign state contravenes the core principles of the UN Charter and the doctrine of sovereign immunity.

He cautioned that such actions set dangerous precedents, erode the foundations of the global legal framework and risk triggering unpredictable and uncontrollable consequences. With the world already grappling with multiple crises, he added, heightened tensions in the Caribbean would not serve regional or global peace.

Ambassador Jadoon stressed that the only viable path forward lies in dialogue and diplomacy. Durable solutions to political disputes, he said, can be achieved solely through peaceful negotiations, with full respect for the will of the Venezuelan people and without external interference.

Urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint, the Pakistani envoy called for de-escalation, peaceful coexistence and constructive engagement, including the use of sincere mediation efforts to resolve the dispute.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to playing a constructive role in supporting the UNSC’s primary responsibility of maintaining international peace and security.

“Peace and stability in Venezuela, along with the welfare and prosperity of its people and full national ownership, must remain the overriding objective of all efforts,” he said.
