Dense fog disrupts life, causes motorway sections closure in Punjab

Severe fog across various parts of Punjab disrupted daily life and caused the closure of several motorway sections, authorities said on Saturday.

According to the Motorway Police, M-2 from Lahore to Kot Momin, M-3 from Darakhana to Faizpur, M-4 from Sher Shah to Pindi Bhattian, and M-11 from Lahore Main Toll Plaza to Sambrial have been closed due to low visibility caused by fog.

Traffic on the Multan-Sukkur M-5 has also been suspended.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert warning of dense fog in southern and central Punjab over the next three days.

The NDMA said cities including Lahore, Jhang, Multan, Khanewal, Mian Channu, and Sahiwal are likely to experience heavy fog.

Fog is also expected in northern Sindh, particularly around Sukkur, while Islamabad may see fog during the night and early morning hours.

In Lahore and other parts of Punjab, motorway closures at key locations have caused long vehicle queues, including at the Babu Sabu Interchange.

A Motorway Police spokesperson said the closures aim to protect public life and property.

In the central motorway region, M-11 (Lahore–Sialkot) and M-3 (Faizpur–Darakhana) have been closed due to fog.

Heavy vehicles are also restricted on M-2 (Lahore–Kot Momin) and M-4 (Khanewal–Multan).

Additional closures include M-3 from Jaranwala to Darakhana, M-4 from Abdul Hakim to Multan, M-4 from Faisalabad to Multan, and M-5.

The Motorway Police said that dense fog makes it very difficult to see the road ahead, and even small mistakes can lead to serious accidents.

They urged motorists to stay in their lanes, avoid unnecessary trips, travel during daylight whenever possible, and drive at safe speeds to protect themselves and others.
