According to a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the extension was approved by Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema on the recommendation of the District Intelligence Committee to maintain law and order.

Under Section 144, political processions, rallies and demonstrations are prohibited. The restrictions also include a ban on motorcycle pillion riding, display of weapons and the use of loudspeakers.

The deputy commissioner said Section 144 had been in force since December 25 and was extended to prevent unrest and ensure public safety across the district.

Media reports said the authorities would review the law and order situation on January 1, after which a decision would be taken on whether to further extend or lift the restrictions.

Separately, the district administration has imposed Section 144 across Rawalpindi ahead of New Year’s celebrations, with restrictions remaining in place until January 1, 2026.

A separate notification issued by the deputy commissioner said aerial firing, fireworks and one-wheeling would be strictly prohibited on New Year’s Eve.

The administration warned that strict action would be taken against violators.
