Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz leave for Dubai on private visit

Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz have departed for Dubai, where they are expected to stay for two days, party sources said on Monday.

The sources said the two leaders are also likely to travel to London after the Dubai visit, though no final schedule has been announced so far.

The foreign trip is of a private nature, according to the party sources. During the visit, Nawaz Sharif is expected to distribute wedding invitations for his grandson Junaid Safdar to close relatives and friends.

Party circles said the trip is not linked to any political activity or meetings and is being described as related to family commitments.

No official statement was issued by the party leadership at the time of their departure from Lahore.

Political analysts, however, say that overseas visits by Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz usually attract public and political attention, particularly at a time when domestic politics remains active.
