According to an analysis published by Foreign Policy, the balance of power in Washington has tilted in Pakistan’s favour, marking what the magazine described as a strategic comeback for Islamabad.

The report said Pakistan has regained trust and access in Washington — something even some long-standing US allies have struggled to achieve — once again becoming a valuable and effective partner for the United States.

Meanwhile, another prominent US magazine, The Diplomat, has declared Pakistan the centre of global attention in 2025 after several years on the sidelines.

The publication said 2025 proved to be a year of strategic return and renewed military confidence for Pakistan.

In its analysis, The Diplomat praised Pakistan’s military leadership for sending a clear and unequivocal message against extremism, emphasising that the authority to declare jihad lies solely with the state.

The report described the military chief’s stance as a turning point in the fight against extremism, saying it helped reinforce the state’s authority and clarify national policy.

The article noted that throughout 2025, Pakistan’s military leadership played a crucial role in strengthening the writ of the state and protecting the country’s national interests.

The publication said Pakistan’s armed forces effectively countered Indian military adventurism, strengthened strategic credibility and deterrence, and enhanced Pakistan’s standing on the global stage.

It added that India’s relations with Washington came under pressure during this period.

The Diplomat also described Pakistan’s defence engagements in the Middle East as major strategic developments, particularly highlighting a significant mutual defence agreement signed with Saudi Arabia.

Foreign Policy said Pakistan quietly but decisively rebuilt its influence in Washington during the Trump era, reshaping the regional diplomatic landscape.

The magazine noted that Pakistan not only secured its place in Washington but also asserted its influence.

According to Foreign Policy, Pakistan’s improved ties were partly driven by personal engagement at the highest levels, including interactions involving senior US officials and Pakistan’s military leadership.
