Balochistan orders probe into teachers’ recruitment scandal after Aaj News exposé

The Balochistan government has ordered a formal investigation into an alleged teachers’ recruitment scandal linked to Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University (SBKWU) after Aaj News exposed large-scale irregularities in the hiring process.

Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, in an exclusive conversation with Aaj News, said the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) has been instructed to conduct a detailed inquiry, while the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has been directed to take custody of all relevant test records.

He lauded Aaj News for highlighting the issue and vowed strict action against those involved.

According to information revealed by Aaj News, recruitment tests for around 8,000 teaching posts were conducted nearly two years ago, with about 200,000 candidates appearing after paying hefty examination fees.

However, evidence showed that several candidates who failed the tests were allegedly awarded top positions, while qualified candidates were ignored.

More than 600 answer sheets from across Balochistan later reached Aaj News, exposing the alleged manipulation.

Following the report, the ACE launched raids on private offices and institutions in different parts of Quetta, seizing key records from areas including Shahbaz Town and Jinnah Town.

Notices were issued to several officials, including former SBKWU vice chancellor Sajida Noreen, directing her to appear before the anti-corruption authorities on January 1.

Officials from other departments and testing services have also been summoned.

Provincial Education Minister Rahila Durrani said she has taken notice of media reports regarding irregularities in recruitments conducted through SBKWU.

Speaking after a Balochistan Assembly session, she said the education directorate has been directed to examine the matter.

She added that appointments were made through district administration committees headed by deputy commissioners, and the extent of irregularities in specific districts is still being determined.

Authorities said more evidence has emerged during the inquiry, and multiple arrests are expected.

The chief minister reiterated that injustice against deserving candidates would not be tolerated and assured that all those involved in the jobs scandal would face strict action.
