Habib University launches digital Pakistan history bibliography

Habib University (HU) has formally launched the Pakistan History Bibliography, a new open-access digital resource designed to expand global access to scholarly research on Pakistan’s history.

Developed after months of work by the university’s library and IT teams, the publicly viewable platform allows students, teachers, and researchers worldwide to explore and share academic material on Pakistan’s past.

The bibliography is available at: habib.edu.pk/pakistanhistorybibliography/

The database currently features nearly 600 curated scholarly works, including books, journal articles, and digital collections. Users can apply advanced search filters by author or subject area, covering themes such as railways, the freedom movement, elections, and ethnic histories.

The project is curated by Dr Sana Haroon, Professor of History and Asian Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston, who led the academic vision behind the initiative.

Dr Haroon compiled hundreds of scholarly submissions with support from her students, which were later transformed by Habib University’s teams into a searchable digital archive. Each entry includes direct access links, enabling researchers to locate and download materials through their home institutions.

The platform also features a “Submit a Source” option, encouraging historians to contribute published work and help expand what the university describes as a living and evolving academic resource.

Habib University said the bibliography is intended to strengthen Pakistan’s scholarly ecosystem by increasing access to high-quality historical research and raising awareness of existing academic work. The university hopes the platform will serve as a central hub for researchers while inspiring new scholarship on Pakistan’s history.
