Bilawal says Imran Khan ‘facing karmic justice’ as Faiz Hamid gets 14-year sentence

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Thursday declared that former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan is “facing karmic justice,” while praising the 14-year sentence handed down to former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid as a “historic” decision.

Speaking to reporters in Chiniot, the former foreign minister said he had “seen two political pharaohs,” adding that Imran Khan once issued threats under the influence of power but was now experiencing the consequences of his own actions.

“General Faiz has received punishment for his crimes. The verdict is historic,” he said.

Bilawal added that Imran Khan, whom he called a “political pharaoh,” must now answer for his actions.

“When Allah gives responsibility, one must fulfil it. Faryal Talpur and Maryam Nawaz were sent to jail; today, the PTI founder is himself behind bars. This is karmic justice,” he stated.

He said his visit to Punjab had been successful, with productive meetings with party workers, and denied discussing any proposal for governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On the Faiz Hamid case, Bilawal said the ex-general’s 14-year sentence matched the severity of the charges, though he noted that “further trials are still pending.” He also reiterated PPP’s commitment to provincial autonomy.

The PPP chairman claimed the country’s economy was “moving in the right direction,” crediting the PDM government for stabilising it.

Earlier on Thursday, the ISPR confirmed that Faiz Hamid had been convicted on four charges: involvement in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act, abuse of authority and misuse of state resources, and causing unlawful harm to individuals. He was sentenced to 14 years’ rigorous imprisonment after a field general court martial.
