Air pollution in Islamabad expected to rise: Health ministry

The Ministry of Health on Sunday issued an advisory for residents of Islamabad, warning that air pollution in the federal capital is likely to surge in the coming days.

Officials say the warning comes as dry winter conditions continue to raise the threat of smog, which can significantly impact public health if pollution levels climb further.

According to the ministry, smog can become hazardous in Islamabad, as airborne particles during such conditions are dangerous for health.

Citizens have been advised to adopt precautionary measures as pollution levels increase.

The ministry noted that children, the elderly and people suffering from chronic illnesses face a higher risk and should take extra care during periods of dense smog.

The advisory warned that severe smog can worsen respiratory, cardiac and eye-related illnesses.

Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement, keep windows and doors closed, and stay away from highly polluted areas.

People have also been asked to refrain from burning wood or waste and to avoid activities that create smoke.

In case of eye irritation, citizens should wash their eyes with clean water, and those stepping outside should wear masks.

Individuals experiencing breathing difficulties or chest pain have been advised to seek medical attention immediately.

The ministry also instructed asthma and respiratory patients to keep their medication with them in case of an emergency.

It encouraged citizens to increase their water intake during the smog season and urged public cooperation in reducing air pollution.
