Families forgive judge’s son in Islamabad crash that killed two girls

The families of two girls killed in a road accident involving the son of a judge have pardoned the accused, leading a local court to grant him bail.

Sixteen-year-old Abu Zar, who had been in police custody on a four-day physical remand, was produced before Judicial Magistrate Shaista Kundi at the District and Sessions Court on Saturday.

During the hearing, the legal heirs of both victims informed the court that they had forgiven the accused.

After the statements were recorded, the court approved Abu Zar’s bail and ordered his release.

One victim’s brother appeared in person, while her mother joined the proceedings online. The father of the second deceased girl also recorded his statement before the court.

The fatal crash occurred on Monday night at Islamabad’s Secretariat Chowk when a speeding white Land Cruiser struck a scooter carrying the two young women.

The victims were identified as Samreen and Tabinda.

A case was registered at the Secretariat Police Station on the complaint of Samreen’s brother.

Police earlier stated that the accused admitted he was recording a video on Snapchat at the time of the accident.

They also confirmed that the underage driver did not possess a valid driving licence.

Abu Zar, son of an Islamabad High Court judge, was arrested after the incident and remanded to police custody for further investigation.
