KP cabinet approves withdrawal of May 9 and 10 cases against PTI workers

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet has approved the withdrawal of cases registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers on May 9 and 10 during the caretaker government, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information Shafi Jan said on Friday.

Shafi Jan told Aaj News that the Advocate General’s office has been instructed to prepare recommendations for returning the cases. He noted that PTI members named in the cases could face disqualification if convicted.

The decision was taken during the 41st cabinet meeting, chaired via video link by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.

CM Afridi also briefed the cabinet on wheat reserves, interprovincial transport, and future strategies. The cabinet approved granting the existing committee authority to procure additional wheat if required.

Financial support was also approved for two patients undergoing kidney and bone marrow transplants, and funds were allocated for the timely completion of ongoing district development projects.

The cabinet also sanctioned a special grant of Rs150 million for the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

Shafi Jan added that the cabinet approved the implementation of recommendations from the committee on ending the Action in Aid of Civil Powers law and assigned a special committee of the provincial assembly to investigate the Radio Pakistan Peshawar incident.

During the meeting, CM Afridi condemned the solitary confinement of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, calling it inhuman, unethical, and illegal.

He criticised the federal ministers’ press conference, saying it could incite public unrest and worsen the situation.

Afridi highlighted KP’s strong stance at the National Finance Commission (NFC) meeting, stating that all participants agreed with the province’s position.

He noted that the shares of merged districts, amounting to Rs1,375 billion, were not included in the NFC award.

The Chief Minister also directed the provision of bulletproof vehicles on a priority basis to district officials and civil officers, and stressed that all government recruitments must be conducted through the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), with private testing agencies excluded.
