Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on Thursday chaired a special meeting that approved the Gujranwala Mass Transit Project.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also attended the meeting.

Nawaz Sharif said the project was the “right of the people of Gujranwala” and should have been launched long ago, adding that he was pleased to see the city progressing.

During the briefing, Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar said the mass transit system would be more than 30 kilometres long, running from Aimanabad to Ghakkhar.

He said the project would operate 40 electric articulated buses and described it as a historic initiative for the city’s residents.

Further details of the implementation plan and timelines are expected in the next phase.
