According to the Environment Department officials, low temperatures and minimal wind are likely to trap particulate matter in the air, increasing pollution levels during the morning and night.

Slight improvement is expected around midday when wind activity picks up.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed all departments to take strict action against pollution sources and ordered strict monitoring of open burning of garbage across the city.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said the ban on burning crop residue is producing positive results.

She added that a comprehensive anti-smog plan is fully operational, with around-the-clock monitoring in place.

She noted that sustained improvements were being observed due to better strategy, strict oversight and public cooperation.

Environmental officials advised citizens to take precautions in view of the current conditions.

Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities —particularly over the weekend — and to stay indoors when possible.

The Environment Department spokesperson advised people to seek medical help immediately if they experience breathing or eye irritation.

Officials also encouraged motorists to switch off engines at traffic signals to help reduce emissions.

Marriyum Aurangzeb reassured the public that the situation remains under control and urged citizens to limit non-essential outdoor movement on Saturday and Sunday.
