Prince Harry opens up about life in exile and lingering regrets

Prince Harry is grappling with lingering regrets as he adjusts to life in the United States.

The Duke of Sussex reflected on his time in the UK in a personal essay released on Remembrance Day, revealing his concerns about staying connected to his homeland.

“Britain is, and always will be, the country I gladly served and fought for, even though I may currently reside in the United States,” he wrote.

He also talked about his happy recollections of daily living in Britain:

As absurd as it may sound, the banter of the mess, the clubhouse, the pub, and the stands is what defines us as British. I’m not sorry about it. I adore it.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams noted that Harry’s essay highlights both his heartfelt reflections and his sense of exile. “ Invictus Games feel deep regret,” Fitzwilliams said.

“The military shaped him, especially after the trauma of losing his mother, which still affects him.

He has given back through the Invictus Games, a remarkable achievement.”

Fitzwilliams added, “His words clearly came from the heart. His respect and affection for Queen Elizabeth II, whom he called ‘my Commander-in-Chief,’ is undeniable.”
