During the voting process, opposition members staged a walkout after holding a noisy protest against the amendment.

Earlier, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar moved the bill in the House, which was passed with 231 votes in favour and four against.

Eight clauses were changed in the 27th constitutional amendment bill, which were introduced by the law minister.

All 59 clauses were approved by a two-thirds majority.

Following the National Assembly’s approval, the bill will be sent to the Senate for approval.

Speaking after the vote, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said that ambiguity about the position of the Chief Justice of Pakistan has been removed and that all parties supported the amendment.

He emphasised that amendments to the law should be made after full consultation, noting that the joint parliamentary committee had thoroughly reviewed the draft before tabling it in the Senate.

Tarar added that all stakeholders were consulted regarding the amendment and that Justice Yahya Afridi would serve as the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar attended the session.

Upon arriving at Parliament House, the prime minister and federal ministers received Nawaz Sharif.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also attended the session, while senior PPP leader Khurshid Shah was brought into the House in a wheelchair due to illness; he has been receiving treatment at a hospital.
