A high-level team from Google for Education and Tech Valley met with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore to discuss the initiative.

The delegation was led by Kevin Callis, Global Director of Google for Education. Tech Valley’s CIO Omar Farooq was also included in the delegation.

During the meeting, the delegation submitted the proposal for the Chromebook factory in the province.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz assured the delegation of her government’s complete administrative and technical support for the project.

The discussion also covered other initiatives, including measures to promote digital education in government schools and the integration of AI tools in learning.

Google representatives said that the new Chromebooks would come pre-installed with three key software applications for students: Gemini, Read Along, and Canva.

The delegation noted that Google for Education has already provided training to over 2,000 government teachers, with more training programmes currently underway.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government is committed to making IT a core part of basic education and aims to establish the province as a hub for artificial intelligence.

She added that the government would fully facilitate the Chromebook factory to promote the local educational technology industry.
