Pakistan rejects Afghan Taliban spox’s ‘twisting’ of facts over Istanbul talks

Pakistan on Saturday rejected the “deliberate twisting of facts” by the Afghan Taliban’s spokesperson regarding the recent Istanbul talks, saying the Afghan side’s remarks are misleading and contrary to the record.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said the comments by the Afghan spokesperson distorted the facts of the discussions.

It reaffirmed that Pakistan’s stance remained clear, consistent, and well-documented.

The ministry stated that Pakistan had demanded that terrorists based in Afghanistan and posing a threat to Pakistan either be controlled or arrested.

“When the Afghan side claimed those individuals were Pakistani nationals, Islamabad immediately proposed that they be handed over through designated border crossings, in line with its long-standing position,” it said.

“Any claim to the contrary is false and misleading,” the statement added.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said Pakistan’s position on the issue left “no room for ambiguity.”

He stressed that any form of misrepresentation or false claim against Pakistan was unacceptable.

The clarification followed Zabihullah Mujahid’s comments to a private news channel, in which he claimed that during the Istanbul talks, Kabul had offered to deport individuals considered security threats by Islamabad, a proposal he alleged Pakistan had declined.
