According to details, the challan, issued on October 27 at around 9:45am near Teen Talwar, Clifton, was sent to a citizen based on the motorcycle’s number plate.

However, the man said he was at his home in Scheme 33 at the time.

The e-challan shows conflicting details: it was issued on the basis of a number plate that does not appear to belong to the citizen. The number plate shown in the image also does not match the registration written in English.

The citizen, who was fined Rs2,500 for allegedly riding without a helmet, said he had never received a challan before.

“I’m under severe mental stress and frustration over this mistake,” he said, adding that the system also incorrectly recorded six demerit points against his name.

He urged authorities to address such technical flaws in the e-challan system, questioning where citizens should turn for redress if “serious errors like this” continue to occur.
