KP CM Sohail Afridi forms security committee to address law and order issues

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has said that a parliamentary security committee has been established under the chairmanship of the provincial assembly speaker to address law and order and security challenges in the province.

Speaking to the media after the committee’s first meeting on Wednesday, the chief minister said the session focused on the province’s overall security situation and that he expected “positive and concrete outcomes” from the committee’s work.

CM Afridi added that the provincial cabinet would be announced soon.

Commenting on recent security operations, he said collateral damage must be assessed carefully in line with international standards.

“If 100 terrorists are killed and two innocent civilians also lose their lives, it is still wrong,” he remarked.

He stressed that incidents where civilians are killed without targeting any militants cannot be termed collateral damage.

“When 20 or more innocent people are martyred and not a single terrorist is neutralised, that is not collateral damage, it is a war crime, and it must be stopped,” CM Afridi said, adding that the parliamentary security committee is working to find practical solutions.

Responding to a question, the chief minister said the Senate elections are scheduled for tomorrow, and whether Barrister Saif joins the cabinet “will become clear soon.”
