Pakistan Airports Authority, SBP launch cashless payment model at airports

In a major step towards implementing a digital payment ecosystem across all airports in the country, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has introduced a cashless payment model in collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

According to a PAA spokesperson, SBP-approved digital service providers will now offer payment solutions at airports, enabling passengers and businesses to conduct transactions electronically.

Under the new system, all commercial entities operating at airports will be required to adopt SBP-licensed digital payment systems. Businesses or concessionaires failing to comply will face penalties, the spokesperson warned.

While passengers will still have the option to make cash payments, authorities said that digital transactions will be strongly encouraged as part of efforts to promote transparency, efficiency, and financial inclusion in the aviation sector.
