Former opposition leader and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub has accepted his disqualification from the National Assembly and withdrawn his petitions filed in the Supreme Court against his disqualification and de-notification as Leader of the Opposition.

Meanwhile, disqualified senator and opposition leader in the Senate, Shibli Faraz, decided to pursue his petition, challenging his disqualification by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

During the hearing presided over by Justice Aminuddin Khan on Monday, a five-member constitutional bench of the Supreme Court issued a notice to the ECP on Shibli Faraz’s appeal challenging his disqualification.

Appearing before the court, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan informed that Omar Ayub had instructed to withdraw both petitions against his disqualification and de-notification. When asked by the bench, he stated that neither Omar Ayub nor Shibli Faraz had surrendered before the authorities.

Gohar Ali Khan told the court that Omar Ayub’s wife is contesting elections, while polls for Shibli Faraz’s seat are scheduled for October 30. The court adjourned the hearing till October 29 after issuing a notice to the Election Commission on Shibli Faraz’s appeal.
