China launches world’s largest electric cargo ship

China has launched the world’s largest electric cargo ship that runs on lithium batteries instead of conventional fuel.

According to the Chinese news agency, this ship, named “Gizuba,” is 130 meters long and has the capacity to lift 13,000 tons.

The ship is powered by 12 lithium battery power units that provide a total of 24,000 kWh of electricity.

According to the engineers, the aircraft has a 500-kilometre maximum range and quick-change batteries.

Moreover, the ship is equipped with advanced features like remote navigation and automatic berthing, thanks to the advanced smart control system installed in it.

According to Yin Xinping, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the development of this aircraft represents a complete technological accomplishment rather than only the production of a new product.

This technology includes the successful testing of big batteries, DC power systems, and remote piloting.

He went on to say that the project’s combination of smart control systems, modern engines, and coastal infrastructure allowed for sophisticated features, including ship-to-shore communication and multi-network integration.

According to the Chinese, the electric ship would cut carbon emissions by 2,000 tons and save 617 tons of fuel a year, making it a significant step toward a greener shipping sector.
