The cross-border terror network of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has once again come to light after the confession of an Afghan suicide bomber arrested from Peshawar revealed key details of the group’s operations inside Afghanistan.

According to security sources, the detained bomber, identified as Waseem, confessed during interrogation that he received suicide attack training at a TTP training centre in Shonkaray, Afghanistan.

He said the training was supervised by Maulvi Siddiq and Commander Rashid, while a Jamaat-ul-Ahrar operative persuaded him to volunteer for the mission.

Waseem disclosed that he was assigned to carry out a suicide attack in Peshawar in May 2024. Following orders, he used smuggling networks to enter Pakistan via Quetta, before travelling onward to Peshawar, where he was arrested by security forces before he could execute the attack.

The confession has once again raised serious questions about TTP’s continued presence and recruitment infrastructure inside Afghanistan, despite repeated assurances from the Afghan interim authorities that their soil would not be used against Pakistan.
