In a statement issued on Tuesday, a spokesperson for K-Electric said that the revised tariff structure, announced under NEPRA’s multi-year tariff (MYT) decision for the fiscal years 2024 to 2030, would not apply to customer billing.

The changes would not translate into lower bills for consumers, and the amount being charged remains unchanged, the spokesperson said.

NEPRA had earlier decided to reduce K-Electric’s average power tariff from Rs39.97 per unit to Rs32.37 per unit.

Earlier, a KE spokesperson had said that the NEPRA’s decision would apply to the company’s generation, transmission, distribution, and supply operations. The regulator had maintained its previous stance regarding the right of claims.

The spokesperson added that some major changes introduced by NEPRA “are unsustainable” for the company and could have far-reaching effects on all stakeholders, especially consumers. KE had also confirmed that it was reviewing the detailed decision and would explore all legal options to safeguard its rights and interests.
