ATC issues non-bailable arrest warrants for Aleema Khan for third time

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi on Monday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, for the third time in connection with the party’s November 26 protest.

The court also issued arrest warrants for her guarantor and ordered the confiscation of surety bonds.

During the hearing, ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah expressed displeasure over Aleema Khan’s continued absence from court despite assurances from her counsel.

The judge directed the SP Rawal Division to arrest Aleema Khan and produce her before the court on October 22.

The court also issued a show-cause notice to her guarantor and forwarded the submitted property documents to the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi for verification.

It is worth mentioning that on October 15, the court formally charged Aleema Khan and nine other accused in the case.

Earlier, on October 8, the court had rejected her plea for exemption from appearance and issued bailable arrest warrants.

The case pertains to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest on November 26, which was held to demand the release of Imran Khan.

The protest march began in Peshawar and headed toward Islamabad, led by Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi and then Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

As the marchers reached Islamabad’s outskirts, clashes broke out between demonstrators and law enforcement agencies, leaving several people injured.

Later, cases were registered in various police stations of Rawalpindi and the federal capital under charges of terrorism, rioting, and property damage.

Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, Ali Amin Gandapur, Omar Ayub, and several other PTI leaders were also named in these cases.

Aleema Khan has repeatedly failed to appear before the court in one of these cases and now faces non-bailable warrants for the third time.
