In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Trump said he preferred to “see how it all works out” rather than setting a rigid deadline for disarmament.

He said Hamas had agreed to give up its weapons and cautioned that if the group did not honour the commitment, the US or its allies could intervene.

“They said they would… if we have to, we will disarm them,” Trump remarked.

“Whether it’s me, the US, or a proxy — could be Israel, with our backing. We won’t have boots on the ground.”

The US-brokered Gaza ceasefire plan, presented by Trump earlier this month, consists of 20 points and has entered its first phase.

The agreement provides for the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, as well as the reconstruction of Gaza and the creation of a new governing structure excluding Hamas.

Israeli attacks since October 2023 have killed nearly 68,000 Palestinians — mostly women and children — and left much of the enclave in ruins.
