Imran offers to mediate Pakistan-Afghanistan peace if granted parole

Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has expressed readiness to help establish peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan, provided he is granted parole.

On Wednesday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Barrister Saif visited Imran Khan at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where the two discussed the escalating tensions between the two countries.

Following the meeting, Barrister Saif told reporters that Imran Khan expressed deep concern over the rising tensions, noting that conflict between two Muslim neighbours serves no one’s interest.

The former premier emphasised that disputes should be resolved through dialogue rather than armed confrontation, Barrister Saif added.

Imran Khan reportedly offered to play an active role in restoring peace and resolving the ongoing dispute with Afghanistan if released on parole.

Separately, speaking to the media outside the jail, Barrister Gohar said that Imran Khan condemned all forms of terrorism, recognising the sacrifices of Pakistan’s army and police as the nation’s own.

He added that Khan spoke about parole as a step toward engaging in dialogue to resolve issues with Afghanistan.

Barrister Gohar also addressed ongoing legal matters, saying the former premier has faced a third sentence in the Toshakhana case, while criticising the proceedings against Bushra Bibi as politically motivated.

He congratulated the newly elected Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and praised the Peshawar High Court decision in this regard.

According to Barrister Gohar, Imran Khan highlighted that terrorism incidents reached a record last year, while noting that under his tenure, such incidents had decreased.
