In his statement on Wednesday, Gandapur said the chief minister’s position was a trust given to him by the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

“In line with his directives, I am returning this trust to him and resigning from the post,” he stated.

Meanwhile, political activity has intensified in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following Gandapur’s resignation, with the opposition announcing an emergency meeting today in the provincial assembly.

The session, to be chaired by Opposition Leader Dr Ibadullah, will be attended by parliamentary leaders from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), and the Awami National Party (ANP).

According to sources, the opposition parties are expected to nominate a consensus candidate for the office of chief minister during the meeting.

Speaking to Aaj News, Dr Ibadullah said the opposition leaders’ huddle would review the overall political situation in the province.

“Nothing is impossible in politics — it’s all about the numbers game,” he remarked, noting that the Election Commission’s website currently lists 91 members as independents.

He said the province had been turned into a political experiment field.

“Attempts are being made to hand over a province like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to inexperienced individuals, but we will not allow anyone to play with the will of the people,” he asserted.

Dr Ibadullah added that the opposition’s strategy would be determined according to the evolving political situation.
