Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri challenges SHC ruling in Supreme Court

Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri has challenged the Sindh High Court’s (SHC) verdict in the Supreme Court, urging the apex court to set aside the ruling passed on September 25.

In his plea filed on Thursday, Justice Jahangiri argued that the SHC had dismissed his request to be made a party in the case, thereby delivering an ex parte decision without hearing the affected party. He maintained that the SHC also overlooked the issue of maintainability of the petition.

The petition has made the Sindh Higher Education Commission, Karachi University, PEMRA, and eight other institutions respondents in the case.

Justice Jahangiri contended that the SHC erred by not allowing him sufficient opportunity to engage legal counsel before passing its judgment.

He further argued that the matter concerning the cancellation of his degree could not have been placed before a constitutional bench.

The petition stressed that the applicant is not only a sitting High Court judge but has also held various bar association offices in the past. It stated that the revocation of his degree was based on mala fide intent and unlawful action.
