India accuses PCB, ACC chairman of trophy misconduct after Asia Cup 2025 final

After India’s victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final, the Indian cricket team has made unfounded allegations against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Mohsin Naqvi. Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Devajit Saikia, claimed on Sunday that Naqvi took the Asia Cup trophy with him to the hotel following the match in Dubai.

While Pakistan and Naqvi played crucial roles in the successful organisation of the Asia Cup, the Indian team reportedly displayed a lack of cooperation during the trophy presentation, causing disorder. Captain Surya Kumar Yadav and other players refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, choosing to take the stage only after all guests and officials had departed.

Saikia acknowledged in an interview with the Indian news agency ANI that India had made a prior decision not to accept the trophy from Naqvi, citing his status as a senior politician in Pakistan. “We made a conscious decision that we would not accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC Chairman because he is a senior politician in Pakistan,” Saikia stated.

India proposed that the trophy be presented by Vice Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board Khalid Alzarouni. However, the PCB Chairman rejected this unconventional suggestion, insisting that he would personally present the trophy in line with standard international protocol.

Indian media and BCCI officials alleged that Naqvi took the trophy and medals to the hotel, a claim that has been deemed baseless.

In fact, when the Indian players declined to accept the trophy and did not participate in the ceremony, the ACC administration removed the trophy and medals in an orderly manner, following international protocol.

In response to the allegations, Saikia remarked sarcastically that it is not within anyone’s authority to take the trophy and medals away.

He described the incident as extremely disappointing and unsportsmanlike, expressing hope that the trophy and medals would soon return to India.
