According to police, the suspects — identified as Umar Malik, Qurban Brohi, and Rasool Bakhsh Sheikh — attacked the camel with axes, severing her hind leg. The animal belonged to Ghulam Mustafa Shambani.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took serious notice of the incident and ordered strict action.

Police registered a case, arresting one suspect, Qurban Brohi, while raids are underway to apprehend the remaining culprits.

District Council Chairman Syed Kumail Haider Shah initially dispatched a medical team for emergency aid, and the camel was later shifted to Karachi on the CM’s directives for advanced treatment.

The injured animal, now named ‘Sumi’ by the CDRS Shelter in Dumba Goth, was found in critical condition.

Shelter officials reported that Sumi’s leg had been crushed, her jaw broken, tongue burned, and her body bore multiple deep wounds, allegedly from being dragged by a tractor after the axe attack.

She is currently unable to eat and is being sustained through IV fluids.

Sindh Livestock Secretary Kazim Jatoi has been tasked with overseeing Sumi’s treatment.

Veterinarians are preparing for the possibility of fitting an artificial leg once her condition stabilises.

The gruesome attack has sparked widespread outrage, with civil society and animal rights groups demanding exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
