In a letter addressed to PIA and the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), the Additional Director of Airworthiness highlighted grave lapses in base maintenance, citing poor planning and weak oversight.

The report raised questions over the performance of the chief engineer for base maintenance, pointing to ineffective discharge of responsibilities.

According to the CAA, a Level-One violation was recorded in the cabin furnishing shop, while unauthorised repairs were carried out on A320 aircraft landing gear actuators.

The authority further noted the misuse of records and certifications, raising serious concerns about compliance with aviation safety standards.

The letter also revealed that a non-approved jack was used on a Boeing 777 aircraft, a fact later confirmed through correspondence with Boeing itself.

Taking serious notice of these findings, the CAA has formally issued a warning notice to PIA, directing immediate corrective measures and stricter monitoring to avoid further violations.
