Arshad Nadeem’s quest for gold in Tokyo ends in disappointment

Despite an impressive performance in the qualifying round, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem failed to qualify for the top six; hence, his journey to bring a gold medal in the World Athletics Championship for his country ended.

Arshad Nadeem recorded a throw of 82.73 meters in his first attempt and achieved a throw of 82.75 metres — his longest in his third attempt.

Nadeem was unable to cut the top six for the final with one round to go.

His indian rival, Neeraj Chopra, was out of the final too as he fell over the line with his throw in the fifth attempt

Trinidad and Tobago’s athlete Walcott won the gold medal with an 88.16-metre throw.

The final featured 12 athletes — including world No. 1 Julian Weber of Germany and defending champion Neeraj Chopra.

Nadeem secured his place in the final with a throw of 85.28 meters on his third and final attempt, following earlier throws of 76.99m and 74.17m.

Chopra, in contrast, needed just one attempt to qualify. He cleared the automatic qualification mark of 84.50m with a throw of 84.85m at Tokyo’s National Stadium.

Neeraj Chopra was aiming to defend his title and make history by securing another gold on the world stage.

This was first direct face-off between Arshad Nadeem and Neeraj Chopra since the Paris Olympics, and notably, since the military skirmishes between India and Pakistan in May.
